New "Air Filter Standard EN779:2011"accepted!

The last hurdle was taken by the end of March, 2011. The new version of EN779:2011 was accepted by the member countries CEN with 21 yeses and 9 abstentions.

Now the national organisations must implement this standard into a national norm within 12 month. However experience says, implementation of a new standard  to manufacturers, planers and users, etc. will take longer... for example today you still find  EU-classification names. This names were valid 15 years ago.

The new standard defines minimum filter efficiencies for the filter classes F7-F9 (tested with electrically unloaded material). This causes problems for the commonly used pocket filters made of synthetic material - many manufacturers of pocket filters will have problems to find adequate solutions. Pocket filters made of fibre glass medium have no problems with the new test method because the fibre glass can not be influenced by electrical loading. But it must be concerned, that fibre glass has the disadvantage of "fibre shedding" (permanent fiber rupture) and this may influence human health.

filtex® is walking on the edge of development and innovations.
At that time filtex® already fulfils the obligations of the new standard with pocket filters of synthetic material  - product line "doubletex" or with fibre glass material  - product line “glass”(details you find in our website)

The most important modifications on one sight:

  • Minimum efficiencies for classes F7 - F9 (el. unloaded material)
  • No min. efficiencies for the actual classes F5 and F6 because of measurement technique reasons
  • New names: F5 becomes M5, F6 becomes M6
